Army Train

From Troop552

On one of our monthly campouts circa 1972, I think it was at the Black Angus camping area we frequented, an incident occurred where a couple of our scouts ended up being investigated by the FBI and got themselves into a whole lot of trouble.

Late on Saturday night during this camping trip, these two scouts (I won't identify them by name) were apparently bored and looking for something to do after Taps. The railroad train tracks were about a mile away from where we were camping and they decided to wander over to the tracks to see what adventure they could uncover. At the tracks they found a large log nearby and thought it would be amusing to put the log on the tracks to see what would happen.

Unknown to them, the next train coming through that night was an Army train carrying explosives. When the train hit the log, the engineer stopped the train and the FBI was called. The investigation discovered who put the log on the train and the two scouts were in and out of court and law enforcement interviews for several months following this event. They may have spent some time in juvenile detention because we did not see much of them after this.

The moral of this story is don't put logs on railroad tracks, you never know when an Army train loaded with explosives will be coming through. Dfrench 22:19, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
